We highly recommend wiping the mat(s) clean with soft damp cloth for everyday cleaning. The best practise to thoroughly clean the mat is simply using mild/ pH balanced soap. If soiled, simply use a small amount of detergent and wipe down the entire mat and leave it to dry naturally/ dry with a dry cloth. Always allow the mat to dry completely before rolling it up and storing it away to prevent any unwanted mould build up.

We also recommended to keep a separate cleaning cloth for the mat as residues from other cleaning products we use (when wiping tabletop or other surfaces) can transfer onto the mat when we use the same piece of cloth to wipe down. Alternatively, using a fresh piece of cloth would also be highly encouraged.

Avoid using baby wipes/ harsh cleaning agents as prolonged use may damage/ discolour the mat.

A play mat is a must-have not only because it has multiple functions that will easily replace some nice-to-haves, in our books - play mat is an essential for both baby and parents.

1. Non-Toxic Material

Having a non-toxic baby play mat is essential to ensure its safety especially from newborn stage. As recommended by health professionals, babies can try to do tummy time soon after birth. As they are in close contact with the mat, having a safe, non-toxic play mat means you don't have to worry about your newborn smelling any odours from the mat.

2. Padded Play Mat

As a regular activity that comes recommended daily, newborns would need a suitable safe and padded surface to do so, and this is where a a play mat with shock-absorbent padded cushioning is very important.

It is also a wonderful area to bond with your baby over play and other activities. We have found that having a play mat helps accelerate many children’s first roll-over, by accommodating a suitable space to flip safely. When they start crawling, a play mat will protect their elbows and knees, and when they take their first steps it will cushion their fall.

3. Waterproof

Apart from tummy time, babies (and us parents) will spend a lot of time on the play mat. Waterproof play mats will be very useful as any spillage can be cleaned easily by wiping it down and you don't need to throw it to the washing machine for it to be washed and dried before the next use.

It can also double as a changing mat as it is so easy to clean and not to mention, eliminating the need to purchase a changing table.

4. Size

Measure up the space where the play mats would be placed before purchasing one is imperative to avoid a mismatch, especially as mats are often marked in the S, M, L format.

If you are not limited by space, consider sizing up your play mat as when baby grows, they require a larger surface area for their activities. Alternatively, additional play mats can be purchased to extend a protected surface area when the need arises. Our play mats come in three different sizes, and its rectangular shape make it easy to mix and match sizes.

5. Thickness

While there are multiple options to thickness of a play mat available on the market, a lot of it depends on the materials it is created from.

A common misconception is that thicker is always better - often a thicker play mat is also heavier in density and for reasons that one should avoid.

Our play mats are made of TPU foam, which is excellent in its shock-absorbency hence negating the need for unnecessary additives and with a 15mm padding they are guaranteed to provide safety and comfort with a bonus of portability as it is just so light!

6. Aesthetics

Often aesthetics to a baby’s bedroom and playroom are suited to their parents’ preferences.

Though, no matter the aesthetics preference you have, bright colours that may stimulate children are often found in the many toys they acquire throughout the years, so having a neutral colour based play mat is often a sensible choice to reduce an overload of colours that may overwhelm you and your aesthetics. Having a baby does not mean you have to compromise on style!

As soon as you're home, you can place your baby on her tummy on a play mat.
